Things to remember:
- Makeup is not about rules but embracing your beauty naturally
- The power of your beauty is on the inside and the outside
- First impressions do make a difference, so make yours count
- Less is more. Remember: subtle is better
- You can look like the cover of a glamour magazine in 5 minutes or less
- Eyes and lips are the focal points of beauty
9 How-to Steps to Create a More Fabulous You with Makeup
- Concealer—A good concealer is your first step. It should be a tone slightly lighter than your own skin tone. Too light a concealer, however, will throw off your whole makeup look.
- Foundation is used only to even out skin tones and to cover up imperfections of the skin. If you have good, even skin tones avoid using foundation at all. Keep your skin looking as natural as you can for as long as you can.
- Cheek color—Choosing the right color and making the proper application frames your eyes to their best advantage.
Eye Color—Choose two to three colors that will compliment your clothing ensemble. Makeup is an accessory, just like earrings or a necklace. Choose medium, dark and light colors.
Aloette's new Simply Chic is a great combination of cheek colors, eye shadows
and eye liners for every season!
- Eye Liner—This step is optional, depending on whether you want your eyes to be larger or smaller, what size eyelids you have, and the effect you want.
- Mascara—Black mascara makes your lashes look longer, brown makes them look thicker and blue under the eyes brings out the whites of your eyes. If you have the time, you can start by applying the brown, lengthening with the black and enhancing the lower lashes in blue. For most of us time is an issue so stick with black or brown.
- Eyebrows—You may not look at your eyebrows as a part of your makeup routine but you should. The test is when you look at your face after application of all your makeup and something is missing. Most likely your eyebrows need darkening. Your eyebrows draw focus to your eyes. Improperly applied color to your eyebrows will make your eyes look unbalanced.
- Lip Liner—If you have a natural full lip, with a natural lip line, you won't need a lip liner. If you have no natural lip line (most of us don't) and don't know where to apply a lip liner, think, "Connect the dots."

- Lip Color— Lip color can be applied with a brush or just straight from a tube, it's up to you. Look for a long wearing color that has slip (slides easily onto the lips) to it. You may pay a little more for a long wearing lip color, but you will look good all the time and you won't constantly be reapplying your lipstick.
These are some basic tips to get you started. To see more details and examples of makeup application, check out Molly's new book "Image Power," which has technique, tips and tools that put you in the forefront of fashion, style and a more beautiful you!
